Burnley FC Women were victorious beating Boldmere St Michaels 5-1 in FA Women’s National League North action at the Lancashire FA County Ground in Leyland.
The Clarets took the lead through an own goal, before Laura Elford netted her first goal for the team to put them two in front.
Boldmere pulled a goal back before the break, through Jess Keeling to get the Mikes back into the game as Dom Cooper re-established Burnley’s two-goal lead straight from a corner.
Elford netted her brace before Millie Ravening added a fifth to seal all three points for Jay Bradford’s side.
Bradford made two changes to the side that brushed aside AFC Fylde, with Elford coming in from the start along with Olivia Greenhalgh. Ella Kinzett and Sarah Greenhalgh were the ones to drop out, as new signing Georgia Marshall was named on the bench for the first time.
First Half
The game started with an even tempo, as Leah Embley tested Pharyn Ashton from close range before Nyah Edwards curled an effort wide for the visitors.
The Claret Women however were in front moments later, as Evie Priestley chased a long ball over the defence and pressured Boldmere defender Jess Keeling into sliding the ball past her own ‘keeper.
And it was soon two, as Elford scored her first goal for the Club, breaking into the box with an explosive move past her marker and firing the ball past Ashton into the far corner.
Jade Formaston had a couple of strikes as the Mikes tried to battle their way back into the game, firstly shooting wide from distance before Lauren Bracewell did well to tip her second effort from distance over the bar.
Boldmere would pull a goal back before the break through Keeling, after Hayleigh Sutton delivered the ball into the box and she headed home.
Sutton had a shot straight at Bracewell before Ravening volleyed wide from a corner in what proved to be the last action of the opening 45.
Second Half
After a slow start to the second half, the Mikes almost found themselves level, as Formaston caught the ball sweetly from 30 yards out and it looped onto the top of the bar.
Burnley then went up the other end as Cooper played a superb ball over the top to find Ravening in space, who took down brilliantly before shooting just wide of the far post.
The Claret Women then scored directly from the resulting corner, as Cooper fizzed the ball towards the near post, and it flew all the way in past Ashton as the hosts two goal advantage was re-established.
Burnley made it 4-1 as Elford bagged her brace after substitute Lizzie Hamer found herself one-on-one with the Mikes ‘keeper and unselfishly played the ball across to Elford who tapped into the empty net.
Ravening got in on the act to add Bradford’s sides fifth as she was played through on goal and made no mistake in slotting the ball past the onrushing Ashton.
That proved to be the last real action of the game, as the Claret Women recorded their third successive win at home in the league.
Burnley are back in action next Sunday – 12th March – when they travel to Emerys Stadium to face Stoke City in the FA Women’s National League North (2pm KO).
