Burnley Women will be looking to retain their spot at the top of the Northern Premier Division of the Women’s National League when they travel to Sporting Khalsa on Sunday afternoon.
The Clarets are currently top of the 12-team standings on goal difference, thanks partly to the fact they are yet to concede a goal this season.
Lou Roberts’ side extended their unbeaten start to the campaign with a 6-0 victory over Huddersfield Town in the FA Women’s National League Cup last weekend.
There were nine changes to the side that started the 5-0 league victory over Loughborough Lightning the week prior, but Roberts’ charges showed no signs of any ring rust.
Goals from Charlie Chadwick, Brooke Cairns and Heidi Logan established a 3-0 lead after just 11 minutes, and Chadwick’s second of the afternoon made it 4-0 at half-time.
Burnley’s strength in depth shone through in the second half as substitute Aimee Kelly came off the bench to net her first two goals of the season in as many minutes.
The Clarets have taken seven league points from a possible nine thus far and it’s Wolverhampton Wanderers, the team we drew 0-0 with last month, who sit 2nd in the table.

Sporting Khalsa are lower down in 9th, claiming three points from their three outings.
A positive sign for the Willenhall-based team is that they have won their last two matches, starting with a 2-0 league victory at Halifax thanks to late goals from Skye Owen and Rosie Axten.
Juan Dopazo’s team then beat Sutton Coldfield Town 3-1 in the FAWNL Cup last weekend, with Ania Denham’s brace being accompanied by an own goal.
Dopazo took the managerial reins in the summer having been part of previous boss Andy Mulligan’s staff last season.
The Clarets did the double over Khalsa last season, including a 7-0 victory on the final day at Turf Moor.
Impressively all the goals came from different scorers, with Jade Richards, Logan, Amelia Hazard, Brenna McPartlan, Danielle Maxwell, Kelly, and Claudia Walker all on target.
We were 3-1 victors at their Guardian Warehousing Arena in November 2024, with Laura Elford scoring either side of a pin-point Tilly Wilkes free-kick.
Tickets for this match at the Guardian Warehousing Arena, Willenhall (WV13 3BB) can be purchased in person on the day.
Adults are priced at £7, while U16s are £4.
