League action is back on the agenda for Burnley Women this weekend, with Rebecca Sawiuk’s side travelling south to take on Sporting Khalsa.
It’s been more than a month since the Clarets’ last Northern Premier Division of the Women’s National League match, which was against Hull City at the start of October.
Because of that a small points gap has been formed to leaders Wolverhampton Wanderers, and Sawiuk’s players will be keen to get to work on reducing that on Sunday.
The Clarets are in a rich vein of form and find themselves on a six-match winning run, as well as being unbeaten in seven.
They come into this match on the back of an emphatic 12-0 victory over Spennymoor Town in the Adobe Women’s FA Cup last weekend, in which four players found the back of the net.
Aimee Kelly returned to the side to net five and Laura Elford wasn’t far behind on four, while Anna Grey came off the bench to score two and Claudia Walker managed a poacher’s finish too.
Burnley are currently 4th in the FAWNL North table with 19 points from eight matches. That’s six points less than Wolves, who have played two games more.

Sporting Khalsa are 11th in the 12-team table having taken three points from their nine matches to date.
The Lions are new to the division after pipping Loughborough Lightening to the Division One North title last term.
Managed by Andy Mulligan, Sporting have picked up a bit of form recently including their first league points of the season courtesy of a 4-0 win over Hull City.
Emily Brett and Annabel Davies struck to give the Midlanders a comfortable lead at the break before Lowri Walker and Laura Smith put the cherry on top after the interval.
Like Burnley, Khalsa enjoyed Adobe Women’s FA Cup success last weekend with a 4-0 victory over Notts County.
Tickets can be purchased from the Guardian Warehousing Arena (WV13 3BB) on the day, with kick-off at 2pm. Adults are priced at £6, while U16s go free with a paying adult.
If you can’t be there in person, live updates will be shared on our dedicated women’s social media channels and a match report will follow the final whistle on www.burnleyfootballclub.com.
