Premier League Cup action under the Friday night lights

Burnley U21s are aiming to extend their perfect start to this season’s Premier League Cup when they travel to Reading’s Select Car Leasing Stadium on Friday night.

The young Clarets are top of Group G after two matches having followed up a 4-1 win at Luton Town with a 2-0 victory over Brighton & Hove Albion at Turf Moor last month.

Tom Tweedy met a Brad Grant cross to open the scoring against the PL2 Seagulls, and an own goal after the break ensured all three points would stay in Lancashire.

Andy Farrell’s team are in fine form at present, winning their last seven matches and 10 of the last 11.

Additionally, the young Clarets have kept three straight clean sheets – including Tuesday’s 5-0 win over Carlisle United in the Central League Cup.

Joe Westley scored the only goal of the first half before the team stepped on the accelerator in the second half.

Tommy McDermott’s goal on the hour was followed by a quick-fire brace from substitute Tom Tweedy, with Joe Bauress completing the scoring 13 minutes from time.

Reading are also a category one academy and therefore operate in PL2, where they sit 16th in the 26-team standings.

The Royals have gained some form recently, winning their last two league matches.

The first was a 4-1 triumph over Tottenham Hotspur, and the Berkshire-based side beat our east Lancashire neighbours Blackburn Rovers last week thanks to a goal from Tyler Sackey.

Managed by former player Noel Hunt, Reading are bottom of Premier League Cup G having lost both of their matches to date.

Kick-off is 7pm and supporters are welcome to attend, with ticket purchasing encouraged in advance of arriving at the stadium.

This can be done online or by phoning 0118 968 1313 and tickets are priced at £4 for adults, £3 for 14-65+ year olds and £1 for those aged 13 and under.

Matchday ticket prices come into effect at 3pm on Friday, with an increase to £6 for adults, £4.50 for 14-65+ year olds and £2 for those aged 13 and under.

Reserved seating is in the West Lower Stand, which can be accessed via gate 1 or gate 4.
