Burnley Women will be aiming to extend their lead at the top of the Northern Premier Division of the Women’s National League to seven points when they visit Liverpool Feds on Thursday night.

The Clarets have won their last eight league matches, the latest of which finished 7-0 against Loughborough Lightning on Sunday.

Aimee Kelly netted twice against the Midlanders and the striker has form against Feds, scoring a stoppage-time winner against them back in October.

The Merseysiders are currently 6th in the 12-team standings and will be buoyed by a 4-1 victory over Hull City in their last outing.

The opposition

Liverpool Feds have become an established tier three side in recent years under the management of former professional Leanne Duffy.

Since the 2022/23 season their league finishes have improved year on year from 9th to 6th last time out.

In the summer it was announced that the team would be taking over Walton Hall Park as their home stadium, with Everton Women vacating for pastures new at Goodison Park.

This campaign has seen them take 16 points from 13 league matches to date, with the first victory coming against Sporting Khalsa in August.

A run to the third round of the Adobe Women’s FA Cup ended in defeat to WSL2 side Newcastle United shortly before Christmas, but the team have bounced back since the turn of the year.

After beating Ashton Town 11-0 in their County Cup, Feds beat Hull City 4-1 to earn three league points on Sunday 25th January.

Chloe Fisher was the star of the show with a hat-trick that day, and Henna Butcher also found her name on the scoresheet.

Players to look out for include captain Chantelle Thompson, who has made more than 450 appearances for the club over 18 years, and Fisher, who is the top scorer with 11 appearances in all competitions.

They will be without the services of two Burnley loanees in Eva Spencer and Helen Seed, though.

“It’s been a bit of a whirlwind coming back, seeing some old faces and some new ones.

“I love coaching, so I’m looking forward to helping the Women’s team and giving them a little bit of stability towards the end of the season, with the aim of getting over the line.

“Liverpool Feds are a good, physical team, and I do think it will be a stronger game than Loughborough.

“We concentrate on us. The team have been fantastic and if we keep doing the right things and take the momentum from Loughborough, I’m confident we can get a good result.”
