Parker's men secure stunning away win!

Burnley ended their winless run in style, with an away day victory to remember at Crystal Palace on Wednesday evening.

Scott Parker’s side fought back from the dead to register a remarkable win on the road – their first Premier League win since the end of October – thanks to one of the comebacks of the season.

In an incredible first half, Burnley, despite trailing 2-0 inside the opening 33 minutes, the visitors went in 3-2 up at the break.

Jorgen Strand Larsen’s double put the hosts in the ascendancy, before Parker’s men responded with three goals in a six-minute purple patch.

A Hannibal strike, Jaidon Anthony goal and a Jefferson Lerma own goal completed a remarkable first half turnaround, as the Clarets led at the interval.

The second half continued to ebb and flow from end-to-end, but chances were at a premium, with Burnley defending for their lives to see out a victory, which no-one - maybe apart from this group- could have possibly seen coming after 33 minutes.

Despite what was to follow in a topsy-turvy first half, there was little to report in the opening exchanges in South London, as both sides enjoyed spells of possession, without posing a threat in key attacking areas.

The first chance of note arrived on 17 minutes and resulted in a Palace goal.

Adam Wharton’s clipped ball over the top found Strand Larsen, who – with time and space to spare – lashed an unstoppable strike past Martin Dúbravka for his first goal for his new club.

Burnley responded with a chance of their of their own six minutes later, with Anthony teeing up the unmarked Zian Flemming, but his 12-yard effort sailed high over the bar.

That missed chance was to prove costly, when the Eagles doubled their lead on 33 minutes.

Lerma’s delivery from the right flank was flighted to perfection, and Strand Larsen stole a march on his marker, heading home into the far corner for his second of the night.

The Clarets, to their credit, didn’t cave in and they were rewarded with a goal six minutes before the break.

A fine six-pass team move ended with Marcus Edwards – whose audacious flick in an earlier phase of play helped create the opening – finding Hannibal, who slammed a fine curling effort into the top corner.

Buoyed by their goal, the Clarets were level three minutes later and what a finish it was too!

Lesley Ugochukwu showed incredible strength and power in midfield and freed Anthony, who took three touches to get the ball out of his feet, before lashing a low right-footed strike into the back of the net.

Remarkably, there was still time for a fifth goal of the half in added-time – and it was Parker’s men who got it!

Humphreys met Anthony’s corner, sending a header goalwards, and Dean Henderson could only tip it on to Lerma, whose deflection squirmed over the line.

Lerma’s role in the own goal proved to be his last involvement, as he was then replaced by Chadi Riad at half-time.

Palace enjoyed the better of the opening 15 minutes, but chances were at a premium.

Ismaila Sarr lashed wide from range, while at the other end, Anthony’s ambitious shot from the edge of the box flew into the packed Holmesdale Road Stand.

The Eagles should have been level midway through the half, but Daichi Kamada – arriving on to Daniel Munoz’s sublime centre – headed wide at the back post with the goal at his mercy.

Sensing the tide might be turning, Parker made a double change 18 minutes from time, with Jacob Bruun Larsen and Lyle Foster entering the fray.

James Ward-Prowse followed soon after, on for his Clarets debut, and he played his part – as did Dubravka with a stunning save to deny Sarr in stoppage-time – to help see Burnley over the line for a incredible away victory!
