Roses clash sees Clarets travel to Yorkshire

Burnley Women will be aiming to earn a fourth straight win in all competitions when they take on Halifax Women on Sunday afternoon.

The Clarets are fighting towards the top end of the table and have scored 18 times in their last three victories, conceding none in the process.

Last weekend was a comprehensive 4-0 scoreline at Derby County thanks to two goals either side of the half-time interval.

Claudia Walker’s 22nd minute header extended her scoring run to four in three matches and it was 2-0 when Ewes defender Daisy Burt turned the ball into her own net.

Danielle Maxwell’s close-range finish five minutes after coming off the bench for her debut made it 3-0 and Laura Elford met an Aimee Kelly cross to score her customary goal in the final quarter.

The result took 3rd-placed Burnley’s points tally to 31 from 12 matches, which is four less than 2nd-placed Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Wolves have played two matches more, though, and the Clarets also have a game in hand on league leaders Nottingham Forest.

Sunday’s opponents Halifax are currently competing at the other end of the table, having claimed one point from their opening 13 matches.

They sit bottom of the 12-team table, knowing that a win this weekend could see them close the gap to Stourbridge and Sporting Khalsa above them.

Managed by Rob Mitchell, the Yorkshire-based team were beaten 2-0 by Nottingham Forest last weekend.

Both goals came in the first half as Millie Chandarana opened the scoring and Charlie Wellings made it 2-0.

They were able to stop the league leaders from scoring after the break but, unfortunately for them, could not avoid a 12th league defeat of the campaign.

The Blues will not be able to call on the services of Lucy Farrell and Lucy Walsh, who are on loan from us until the end of the season.

Burnley did the double over Halifax last season, winning the latest game 2-1 away from home in April 2024.

Manchester City loanee Gracie Prior opened the scoring with her first Clarets goal in the first half, but the hosts equalised soon after the interval through Katie Ramsden.

Rebecca Sawiuk’s side fought until the very end though and Laura Elford netted a 97th-minute winner to spark jubilant scenes on and off the pitch.

Tickets for this match at the YoungGunsFC Arena in Tadcaster (LS24 9AY) can be purchased on the day and are priced at £6 for adults, £4 for concessions and £2 for children.
