Clarets welcome Midlanders to Lancashire

Burnley Women will fight for three league points for the first time in seven weeks when Sporting Khalsa visit the County Ground in Leyland on Sunday.

The Clarets’ last three outings have come in cup competition, the latest of which ended a 12-match winning run last weekend.

Manchester United were the opponents in the Adobe Women’s FA Cup and it finished 5-0 to the Women’s Super League side at the Progress with Unity Stadium in Leigh.

Maya Le Tissier, Melvine Malard and Simi Awujo all netted in the first half, before Lea Schüller and Layla Drury added to their tally after the break.

Lou Roberts’ side's last league outing was a 3-1 victory at Middlesbrough in the first week of December.

After 12 matches Burnley are 2nd in the 12-team table with 32 points, two less than leaders Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Sporting Khalsa are competing at third tier level for the second year running, having never done so before.

The Midlanders have taken six points from a possible 33 this season and come into this game on the coat tails of back-to-back defeats.

Their last victory was against Hednesford Town in the Adobe Women’s FA Cup towards the end of November, while their last league triumph came against Loughborough Lightning earlier that month.

Juan Dopazo took the managerial reins in the summer following the departure of long-serving boss Andy Mulligan.

The Clarets won 2-1 when these two teams met at Khalsa’s Guardian Warehousing Arena back in September.

Our two goals came in the opening 11 minutes, including an opener with less than 60 seconds on the clock from Claudia Mummery-Walker.

Millie Ravening then had a close-range header after good work from Brenna McPartlan, with the hosts’ goal coming from Megan Cann in the second half.
