Clarets back at Leyland on Wednesday

Burnley Women are preparing for another two-game week, starting with the visit of Liverpool Feds to Leyland on Wednesday night.

Both are league matches with valuable points up for grabs, and the Clarets will head into the Feds clash on the back of an emphatic victory in the first round of the Adobe Women’s FA Cup.

Blackburn Rovers were Sunday’s opponents and Lou Roberts’ side racked up 12 goals, with Claudia Walker scoring a hat-trick and Heidi netting a brace.

Further strikes came from Tilly Wilkes, Aimee Kelly, Charlie Chadwick, Millie Ravening, Brooke Cairns, Emma Siddall, and Maddie Robinson on a memorable afternoon.

The Clarets’ last league outing was last week’s trip to West Bromwich Albion, which was settled by Millie Ravening’s penalty.

Burnley are one of the Northern Premier Division of the Women’s National League’s two unbeaten teams and have claimed 17 points from their seven fixtures.

That puts them a point ahead of the other unbeaten side Wolverhampton Wanderers at the top of the table, although the Midlanders have played one game less.

Liverpool Feds will look at their start to campaign through a positive lens, claiming 10 points from their seven matches.

In addition to a draw against Rugby Borough, the Merseysiders have claimed league victories over Loughborough Lightning, Hull City, and Sporting Khalsa.

They also started their Adobe Women’s FA Cup campaign with a victory, beating fourth tier outfit Chester Le Street 4-0.

Katie Anderson’s strike gave Feds a one-goal lead at the break before Chloe Fisher, Aleesha Collins, and Jess Brady put the cherry on top in the second half.

Anderson and Fisher are two players to look out for and lead their team’s scoring charts with six and five respectively.

Burnley did the double over these opponents last season, and our most recent encounter was also in Leyland back in February 2025.

It finished 5-0 that night thanks largely to Heidi’s first career hat-trick, while Laura Elford and Claudia Walker also found the back of the net.

The reverse fixture was a much tighter affair and after Georgia Marshall’s early header was cancelled out, Brenna McPartlan won it in the 97th minute to spark jubilant scenes at the Jericho Arena.

Burnley men’s team season ticket holders can claim free entry by presenting their season card at the gate on Wednesday night.

Other adults are priced at £5, while concessions are £2.50. Free parking is available at the County Ground in Leyland (PR25 2LF) on a first-come-first-served basis.
