A landmark occasion will take place this Sunday afternoon – 30th April – when, for the first time in the Club’s proud 140-year history, Burnley FC Women will take to the pitch at Turf Moor with Liverpool Feds the visitors (2pm KO).
The historic game will mark the last league game of the campaign for Jay Bradford’s side, who are still in with an outside chance of reaching the promotion play-off final this term.
To do so, and be in with a chance of promotion, they’d have to finish top in the Northern Premier Division of the FA Women’s National League.
Claret Women discover opponents for the upcoming campaign
Sat 3rd at the time of writing, they trail both Wolves in 2nd – who beat them 2-1 last weekend – and current leaders Nottingham Forest by two points, Burnley must first claim all three points against Feds and hope that results go their way in the other pair’s respective games against Brighouse Town & Stoke City.
Whatever happens come Sunday though, Bradford’s side can reflect on what – on the whole – has been a positive campaign and one of growth.
Going 16 games unbeaten in the league, running all the way until the beginning of this month, the Claret Women have also lifted silverware in the form of the Lancashire FA Women’s Senior Cup.
Success has also been tasted away from the pitch this term, with the Club recently announcing that women’s operations will be given further investment. Earlier in the campaign, a nomination was also received at the ‘Leaders in Sport Awards’ for a partnership with TikTok, where all of the Claret Women’s home league matches have been streamed live over the previous two campaigns, reaching 1,000,00 unique views earlier in April. The women’s team – and its management – has come a long way in a short space of time, accelerating from an almost intangible connection with the Club to falling under Burnley FC in the Community, and since February 2021 the football club itself.
Rising from the fifth to third tier in quickfire fashion, achieving a 4th-place finish last term, and now heading into the last game of the season this time around at Turf Moor with promotion still a possibility under boss Bradford.
Growth is happening continually, and if you aren’t going to be already, you can still be a part of history tomorrow afternoon at Turf with tickets available HERE, in person and over the phone at the ticket office. Close to 3000 have already been sold, and we can’t thank you enough for your support. Please note that tickets purchased on the day of the game will increase to £7.50 for adults & £5 for U18s, so we urge you to buy in advance where possible!
Please see below for a guide to what’s going on at Turf Moor on Sunday.
Both the Clarets Store and ticket office are open, and once you’re inside the ground, we’ll have some special pre-match presentations.
Please note that our matchday programmes, priced at £2, can be bought in the Clarets Store and at the kiosks inside Turf Moor.
And aside from the 90 minutes of football, which promises to be special in its own right against a Feds side headed up by Leanne Duffy that have just secured their safety as a third-tier outfit, there will also be a BFCitC-lead penalty shoot-out at half-time along with a Q&A with former Lioness Rachel Brown-Finnis.
If you can’t be at Turf Moor, we will cover the game as normal over on Twitter - @BurnleyFCWomen – and on @BurnleyOfficial across all other social channels. We’ll also have a report for you post-match, along with all the reactions, here on Burnleyfc.com. On TikTok - @BurnleyOfficial – we’ll have a livestream with full match commentary from Matt Jones alongside Burnley born and bred Brown-Finnis.
