After three months out with injury it was only natural that when Jay Rodriguez scored his first goal since November his emotions might come tumbling out.
So when he grabbed the winner for Burnley at Bristol City - that’s exactly what happened : “There was a lot of emotion, a lot of frustration. Many things came out in the celebration. I’m really, really happy and it’s always nice to score and get the winner.”
The goal at Ashton Gate was his tenth of the season for the Clarets and the Burnley boy was quick to thank one of our own for helping him back to fitness : “I’ve got a lot of thanks to Phil [Pomeroy] in the medical staff. Phil works extremely hard. He’s another Burnley lad so it’s nice to work with him. He’s a legend and he’s done well for me. I really appreciate it.”
With one more match to go before the end of the season, and another sell out crowd at Turf Moor to watch their team be presented with the Championship trophy, Jay Rod also paid tribute to the ever loyal supporters: “They’ve been massive. From the first game at Huddersfield away. You felt the noise. The backing of the supporters. It’s been amazing.
“I think they’ve really enjoyed it and we’ve really enjoyed what we’ve seen from them. I think that’s the way it should be. Hopefully it continues and we can keep going.
“I’m really happy now we can have a celebration together. Hopefully with another win that’s the main thing for us on Monday. We can have our celebrations together and really enjoy the moment.”
