Burnley Women are aiming to extend their unbeaten start to the league season when Hull City travel to Lancashire on Sunday afternoon.

The Clarets sit 3rd in the Northern Premier Division of the Women’s National League, with a game in hand on the two teams above them.

Lou Roberts’ side will be buoyed by last week’s emphatic FA Women’s National League Cup victory over East Lancashire neighbours Blackburn Rovers, which finished 13-0.

There were nine different scorers as the Clarets ran riot, with particular praise reserved for Charlie Chadwick as she netted her first senior hat-trick.

Aimee Kelly and Danielle Maxwell also netted braces on a productive day in front of goal, with Roberts and co keen to extend that notion into this weekend.

By the time kick-off comes around it will have been three weeks since Burnley’s last league fixture – a 2-1 victory at Sporting Khalsa in which Claudia Walker and Millie Ravening were on target.

Roberts’ side have 10 points from a possible 12 thus far, leaving them level on points with 2nd-placed Rugby Borough and three adrift of leaders Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Hull City’s tally of seven points from five matches leaves them slightly lower down the standings in 7th.

The Tigresses made a fantastic start to the campaign, going unbeaten in their opening five fixtures in all competitions. That run included league victories over Halifax and West Bromwich Albion.

They have, however, lost their last two league matches – including a 7-1 defeat at the hands of Wolves.

Hull were in FAWNL Cup action last weekend, drawing 2-2 with fourth-tier outfit Barnsley. The result was enough to see them progress to the knockout stages though, and a Yorkshire derby against Leeds United awaits.

The Tigresses have been managed by Chris Hames sine June 2022, and he was also made Director of Women and Girls Football less than a year later.

Burnley have a positive recent record against Hull, winning all three matches against the Yorkshire side last season. Two of those fixtures were in the league, with another in the FAWNL Cup.

Our most recent encounter came in November 2024, and the Clarets returned to Lancashire with three points thanks to goals from Brenna McPartlan and Walker.
