Burnley Women are back in action this weekend, contesting an East Lancashire derby against Blackburn Rovers in the FA Women’s National League Cup.

Before kick-off the two teams will come together to remember Matt Beard, who sadly passed away last week at the age of 47.

This is Burnley’s last Group T match and Lou Roberts’ side are top of the standings after victories over Chorley and Huddersfield Town.

Because of that they are all but guaranteed a spot in the knockout stages, either as group winners or runners up.

Following the postponement of last weekend’s trip to West Bromwich Albion, this is Burnley’s first outing since the 2-1 league victory at Sporting Khalsa on Sunday 14th September.

There were goals galore the last time they competed in the FA Women’s National League Cup, when Charlie Chadwick and Aimee Kelly both scored braces as part of a 6-0 win over Huddersfield Town.

Brooke Cairns and Heidi Logan were also on target at the County Ground in Leyland that day, with Roberts’ side eager to secure their progression on Sunday afternoon.

Opponents Blackburn Rovers currently operate in the fourth tier, known as FAWNL Division One North, and sit bottom of the table after five matches.

They were beaten 7-0 at Leeds United last weekend and have also lost both of their FAWNL Cup matches to date.

James Mallett was appointed Head Coach in the summer and will be looking to bring his 17 years of coaching experience to Rovers’ new-look squad, which features lots of young players starting their careers.

Tickets for this match at the Loom Loft Stadium, Clitheroe (BB7 1LZ) can be purchased in person on the day with cash or card.

They are priced at £8 for adults, £6 for seniors and £4 for U18s, and the turnstiles will open at 1pm ahead of the 2pm kick-off.
