Re-run of last season’s final as Claret Women face Coasters in last eight of county cup

Burnley FC Women take on AFC Fylde Women in the Quarter Final of the Lancashire FA Women’s Senior Cup on Sunday afternoon, 20th November, at Kellamergh Park (2pm KO).

The Claret Women last season won the LFA’s Women’s Challenge Cup, beating the Coasters 4-1 in the final of that competition with goals from Evie Priestley (2), Millie Ravening & Courtney Willis.

But ahead of this campaign, the county cup competitions were revamped and the newly-formed Senior Cup was created for teams based in tiers 2-5 of the pyramid, including Burnley & Fylde.

With five Clubs fitting into that criteria and entering the Senior Cup, three were handed a bye into the semi-finals with a randomised draw. Accordingly, the only Quarter-Final tie pulled out was this one between Burnley & AFC Fylde.

The winners of Sunday’s tie will progress into the last four, where one of West Didsbury & Chorlton Women, Darwen FC Ladies and Blackburn Community Sports Club Women await.

Jonathan Morgan’s side head into this weekend’s last-eight tie on the back of three consecutive victories, all across different competitions, and with their unbeaten status this season still in tact.

Last time out, they progressed into the Second Round of the Vitality Women’s FA Cup – where they will face Cheadle Town Stingers away from home – with a thumping 9-0 win on the road against Tranmere Rovers Women.

After Courtney Willis had fired the Claret Women ahead just eight seconds into the contest on Merseyside, braces from Millie Ravening & Sarah Greenhalgh along with a strike from Ellie May made it 6-0 come half time.

Although the goals slowed down come the restart, there was still time for Greenhalgh to complete her hat-trick and both Aimee Kelly & Leah Embley to get on the scoresheet, marking a completely dominant performance with a comprehensive victory.

In Coasters Fylde, Burnley now face an opponent they need no introduction to having already gotten the better of their North West foes once this season at Kellamergh Park.

Back in August in the third game of the campaign, Evie Priestley netted a hat-trick – with Ravening also on target – in a 4-2 success which came in league action.

Danielle Young’s side at that stage in proceedings were without a point to their name, though now – with 10 league games played – have now picked up 11.

In their last game, the Coasters – like Burnley – also defeated a side from two divisions below in the Vitality Women’s FA Cup away from home, seeing off Alnwick Town Ladies up in Northumberland with a 4-1 margin of victory.

Fans are welcome at Kellamergh Park (PR4 1TN) on Sunday, and up until midday on matchday tickets can be bought online HERE at a half price rate of £2.50 for adults & £1 for U16s.

On gameday, supporters can pay on the gate with entry costing £5 for adults & £2 for U16s.
