Burnley FC Women progressed into the Second Round Proper of the Vitality Women’s FA Cup in style with a thumping 9-0 victory against Tranmere Rovers Women at the Ellesmere Port Sports Village.
Jonathan Morgan’s side had six different names on the scoresheet with Sarah Greenhalgh netting a hat-trick and Millie Ravening striking a brace.
Ravening was one of only two to keep their place in the starting lineup – alongside Lucia Molinari – from last week’s victory at Liverpool Feds Women in league action as Morgan rotated his squad.

Accordingly, amongst those to come in were experienced heads Danielle Deehan & Sammy Fleck in defence who both started for the first time this season. Olivia Wilson was also in the backline, making her return from injury, while Lucy Farrell started in goal.
And on the bench for the Claret Women were 16-year-olds Lou Lou Newton and Isabelle Kershaw. The latter was involved in a matchday squad at senior level for the first time.
Prior to kick-off, the two teams held a minute’s silence to mark Remembrance Sunday.
First Half
Burnley couldn’t have got off to a better start, finding themselves ahead within eight seconds of the game getting underway through Courtney Willis, who drilled her strike into the bottom corner to kickstart what would be a comfortable afternoon against a Tranmere side who ply their trade two divisions below Morgan’s side.
Soon after, Ravening was threaded through but fired over from just inside the box. She would be the next on target though with the second of the game coming on 14 minutes via a rasping strike from distance from the midfielder’s boot.

Tranmere goalkeeper Katy Maddock then held efforts from Ravening and Ellie May, sandwiched by a strike from Leah Embley which went wide of the mark, before striker Greenhalgh made it 3-0 prior to the half-hour mark with a header from a few yards out.
Both Ravening and Greenhalgh were then on target again within 60 seconds of one another, the first from the midfielder a free-kick bouncing in via the underside of the crossbar and the second a clinical finish from the forward following a smart stop from Maddock to deny May.
And it would be six before the break with May herself taking aim from range to find the back of the net on 42 minutes.
Second Half
Tranmere’s first shot of the game came three minutes after the restart from Laura Pennington who hammered an effort over the bar, while Willis dragged a shot wide at the other end.
Greenhalgh would get her hat-trick on 55 minutes, thumping a shot past Maddock at close range, to make it 7-0 before Bethan Woolley fired over for the hosts.

The hour-mark saw boss Morgan make all three of his allotted changes, and with them came the debut of teenager Kershaw along with the introduction of fellow youngster Newton and forward Kelly.
Minutes later, Farrell tipped a long-range free-kick from Pennington over before both Kelly & Ravening were kept out by Maddock in quick succession.
The Claret Women increased their advantage with 15 minutes left to play through substitute Kelly, who wrongfooted a defender from a ball into the box to poke home Burnley’s eighth.
And completing the rout was Embley on 88 minutes, firing low past Maddock into the bottom corner.

Morgan’s side are in Lancashire FA Women’s Challenge Cup action next Sunday – 20th November – when they take on AFC Fylde Women in the First Round Proper of that competition (2pm KO).
