Burnley FC Women are in Vitality Women’s FA Cup action on Sunday – 29th January – when they welcome Cardiff City Ladies to the County Ground, Leyland in the Fourth Round of the competition (2pm KO).

Jonathan Morgan’s side head into the tie looking to get back to winning ways following last week’s FA Women’s National League Cup exit at Nottingham Forest Women.

Alyssa Aherne came off the bench, making her Burnley debut, against the Reds to score what proved to be a consolation in a 2-1 defeat. That loss in the League Cup Quarter-Final was the first in a competitive game under Morgan, and a first since March 2022 for the side.

With a spot in the Fifth Round of the FA Cup now at stake, the Claret Women are back involved in a competition that has already seen them net 11 goals across three previous rounds.

Starting off with a 9-0 thumping win at Tranmere Rovers Women back in November, there has since been 1-0 victories over both Cheadle Town Stingers Women and most recently Norwich City Women earlier this month.

Captaining the side on the day, Millie Ravening netted the only goal of the game against the Canaries, with Lucy Farrell impressing in goal with a clean sheet.

Sunday’s opponents Cardiff meanwhile, who ply their trade a division lower than Burnley, have come through an extra round in the competition.

After successes against Downend Flyers Ladies, Bridgwater United Women and Keynsham Town Ladies, the Dragons got the better of Bournemouth Sports Ladies in Round Three.

Also topping the FA Women’s National League Division One South West at the time of writing, Jamie Phillips’ Welsh outfit are enjoying a successful season.
