Burnley FC’s U21s side will return to action on Monday, when they travel to Millwall Training Ground to take on Millwall.
The Clarets have seen a summer of change within the U21s, with Charlie Casper, Brad Grant, Kian Le Fondre and Will Hugill penning their first professional contracts with the Club, and numerous players moving on at the end of their deals.
The game, against last season’s U21 Professional Development League winners, will prove a tough test as the Clarets begin their season on the road.
The last time Burnley faced the Lions at this level was back in April, when the hosts ran out 1-0 winners in a tight affair at the Den, where a Tyler Burey goal was all that separated the sides.
The Clarets come into this game after winning their last pre-season fixture 5-2 against Salford City, as goals from Basilio Rieno Socoliche, a trialist, Will Hugill and a double from Lewis Richardson saw the U21s cruise to victory.
Millwall began their season last Tuesday – 15th August – with a 2-2 draw at Sheffield Wednesday.
Abdul Abdulmalik and Henry Hearn struck for the Lions but a Bailey Cadamateri double, including an equaliser in the 89th minute saw the game end in a stalemate.
That result leaves Millwall fourth in the Southern division of the Professional Development League, with the Clarets sat 8th in the Northern division as they are yet to play a game.
Burnley will begin the season hoping to better their fifth placed finish from the previous campaign – where they finished just four points outside the play off places.
In the Professional Development League, the top two sides from the Northern and Southern divisions take place in a play-off at the end of the season to determine the overall winners, with the 1st placed sides playing the 2nd placed sides in a semi-final, before a final determines the winner.
This game will kick off at 2pm, with updates available on the @ClaretsAcademy Twitter page and a match report to follow on burnleyfc.com after the final whistle.
