Burnley U21s finish their 2025/26 league campaign with an East Lancashire derby against Blackburn Rovers on Sunday afternoon.

Kick-off is 12pm, and the young Clarets will be keen to finish their Premier League 2 schedule with three points and a performance to match.

By the time this game comes around, it will have been the best part of three weeks since Andy Farrell’s players' last competitive outing.

That was a goalless draw against Ipswich Town at Portman Road but the scoreline is deceiving, with both sets of players contributing to an entertaining night under the lights.

Vernon Masara’s penalty and a long-range Charlie Veevers free-kick were the closest the Clarets came to breaking the deadlock, but it wasn’t to be in the end.

After 19 league matches the Clarets have 13 points, leaving them 28th in the 29-team table.

With a Premier League Cup semi-final against West Bromwich Albion on Monday 13th April also on the agenda, Academy squads will be managed accordingly.

Blackburn Rovers have 11 points from their 18 outings, meaning they currently sit bottom of the standings.

They were in action earlier this week, losing 2-1 to Aston Villa at their base in Brockhall Village on Easter Monday.

Harry Lister gave Blackburn an early lead but after Brad Burrowes equalised from the penalty spot, substitute Cole Brannigan netted a 94th-minute winner for the Villans.

Gregory Vignal was named Rovers’ U21s Head Coach in November 2025.

The former defender, whose playing career included spells at Liverpool and Rangers, worked as part of Steven Gerrard’s support staff at the latter.

Burnley Training Centre is the venue for this match. Access to the site is limited, and there is no car parking.
