Three goals either side of halftime earned Burnley U21s an emphatic 6-0 victory over Queens Park Rangers on Tuesday afternoon.
There were five different scorers for Andy Farrell’s side, who made it back-to-back Professional Development League victories following last week’s triumph at Bristol City.
It was a much-changed line-up from that clash at Ashton Gate, with first-team players Etienne Green, John Egan, Owen Dodgson and Enock Agyei all earning valuable minutes from the off.
U21s regulars Will Hugill, Tommy McDermott and Vernon Masara also returned.
The Clarets were on the front foot from the off and after a couple of close calls, the deadlock was broken in the 14th minute when Kamarni Ryan finished with the help of a deflection.
Two goals in five minutes then took the game away from the visitors, and both were made by Agyei on the right wing.
The 19-year-old first picked out Hugill to volley home from inside the area before producing a fine piece of skill to beat his man and tee up Masara to finish well.
Burnley started the second period the same way that they did the first and it was 4-0 after 53 minutes, with Masara winning a penalty that Joe Bauress slotted in coolly.
Joao Mendes was introduced in the aftermath of that goal and made an immediate impact, heading in a pinpoint Bauress cross just four minutes later for his first Clarets goal.
Farrell made the most of his substitutes bench in the strong sun and the Clarets kept the R’s pinned back right until the end, adding a sixth and final goal as the clock hit 90.
Good work from McDermott saw him dispossess a defender and slide through Ryan, who coolly picked out the bottom left corner for his second goal of the afternoon.
The result takes the young Clarets’ points tally to eight from six matches, which is enough to have them 2nd in the 11-team table.
Burnley are back at the County Ground, Leyland, on Tuesday 24th September for the visit of Crewe Alexandra. Kick-off is 7pm.
