Joe Bevan netted his first goals for the Club as Burnley U21s saw off Peterborough United in style, winning 4-0 on Friday afternoon.
Mikey O’Neill and captain Will Hugill were also on target for the young Clarets, who claimed three Professional Development League points at the Burnley Training Centre.
Manager Andy Farrell made three changes to the side that faced Sheffield Wednesday earlier this week, with Sam Waller, Logan Pye and Ackeme Francis-Burrell all returning from the start.
On a wet day in Padiham it was Burnley who started quickest, with Joe Ashton heading wide before Bevan and Tommy McDermott both made the Peterborough goalkeeper work.
The opening goal then came 26 minutes in. After strong play from Francis-Burrell, the ball fell to Mikey O’Neill to sweep in from four yards.
That sparked the visitors into life, with Kai Corbett striking a powerful free kick that Waller held well.
Corbett was forced off through injury towards the end of the first half and the resulting stoppage-time saw Hugill double the lead, rifling into the bottom left corner from 20 yards with his left foot.
The Clarets started the second half in similarly attacking fashion, and two goals in eight minutes from Bevan then took the game away from Peterborough.
The first saw the Scotsman drop a shoulder on the right flank and curl into the bottom left corner, before he then fired across Posh goalkeeper Fynn Talley from the left.
McDermott later had a chance to score a second penalty of the week, but the January addition from Port Vale smacked the right-hand post.
Bevan almost had a hat-trick with 10 minutes to play but his goal-bound effort was cleared off the line by a Posh defender.
The U21s are next in action on Tuesday 20th February, welcoming Accrington Stanley to the Burnley Training Centre in the Central League Cup.
