Burnley FC’s U21 side drew 2-2 in their opening home game of the 2023/24 Professional Development League campaign against Cardiff City at the Lancashire FA County Ground in Leyland.
A Trialist gave the Clarets a fifth minute lead before Cody Twose headed the Bluebirds level just before the break.
Tom Tweedy put Burnley back in front after 55 minutes but Joel Colwill netted in injury time to make sure that the points were shared.
The U21s made two changes to the side that lost 3-1 against Millwall on Monday – 21st August – with Owen Dodgson and a Trialist coming in from the start, to replace of Brad Grant and Joe Ashton, who dropped to the bench.

First Half
The Clarets started the game the stronger of the two sides and were in front after five minutes, when Marcel Lewis expertly delivered a free-kick towards the six-yard box, where the Trialist rose highest to beat Jake Dennis to the ball and head into the back of the net.
Burnley were almost two up moments later, when Lewis Richardson won the ball back on the edge of the area, and slipped Tweedy through on goal, but the Welshman saw his effort cleared of the line, despite beating the ‘keeper.
A couple of half chances followed for the home side, with Richardson doing well to work a shot but shooting wide and Lewis bending his free-kick from distance just past the post.
The Clarets were made to pay for missed chances as Cody Twose found himself in space in the area, and headed a cross back past Casper to level for the Bluebirds.
Casper was then called into action once more just before the break, doing superbly to keep out a deflection following a Jai Semenyo cut-back, as the two sides went into the break level.

Second Half
Tweedy put Burnley back in front just after the break, with Richardson expertly weaving his way through two Cardiff defenders on the edge of the area, before playing in Tweedy who slotted home past Dennis.
Cian Ashford then took aim from the edge, with his strike tipped wide by Casper and substitute Tanatswa Nyakhuwa also went close as he curled a shot just past the post.
Both sides had half-chances to score after that as Richardson shot straight at Dennis and Colwill heading tamely at Casper.
Pressure told for the Clarets in the end, as they failed to clear a cross into the box and Colwill nicked in at the back post to prod home with the last kick of the game to ensure the points were shared.
The U21s are back in action on Tuesday 29th August, when they face Barrow in the Lancashire FA Senior Cup Final at the Lancashire FA County Ground (7:45pm KO).
