Tony Philliskirk’s youth team made it four points from two group games in this season’s U18 Premier League Cup with a 2-2 draw away at Arsenal.
Having fallen behind twice, a goal from Will Hugill and a late leveller from substitute Tremaine Eastmond earned the Clarets a point to add to the three they picked up against Everton back in September.
Played at Arsenal’s London Colney training ground, Burnley started brightly and went close early on through the head of Kade Ratchford. The attacker rose highest to meet a cross from the right after a well-worked move, but could only direct his effort just wide of the post.
Ratchford was involved again soon after, whipping a cross in from the left which Will Hugill met but couldn’t connect with fully so saw his shot taken well by Gunners’ goalkeeper Remy Mitchell.
After Charlie Casper had made four good saves in quick succession to deny the hosts, the Clarets could have taken the lead through Joe Smyth-Ferguson. Having netted twice in midweek against Wigan Athletic, the frontman broke through on goal at London Colney, but his shot trickled past the post with Mitchell well-beaten.

And having survived that scare, the hosts got a slice of fortune through a contentious penalty decision which went their way. Marcelo Flores Dorrell took advantage and slotted in from 12 yards out to hand Arsenal the lead before the break.
It didn’t take long for the Clarets to hit back post-restart though, with Will Hugill firing into the back of the net from the edge of the area just four minutes into the second half.
That goal settled things down in the contest, and Burnley went on the front foot, but Arsenal managed to get themselves back in front with 20 minutes remaining through an own goal.
A Gunners’ winger cut into the box and drilled the ball along the floor which nicked off the ankle of Dan Sassi and squirmed its’ way over the line.
Sassi almost hit back instantly with a header at the other end after Ryan Tioffo had replaced Smyth-Ferguson from the bench, but his header was well taken by ‘keeper Mitchell.

Boss Philliskirk then made a double substitution, bringing on both Tremaine Eastmond and Sean Etaluku which paid off with three minutes remaining.
Eastmond linked up with fellow sub Tioffo, meeting a deep cross from the left to volley into the back of the net, earning the Clarets a deserved point.
Burnley: Casper, Williams, McCullough, Bauress, Sassi, Leckie, Couch, Coppack (Etaluku 76’), Smyth-Ferguson (Tioffo 69’), Hugill, Ratchford (Eastmond 76’)
Subs: James, Walters
