Clarets manager Sean Dyche was pleased to see his team heading ‘in the right direction’ after a tough-to-take 2-0 defeat at Manchester City.
The Clarets were a little unfortunate not to come away with something after a battling performance at the Etihad, going down to a Bernardo Silva goal and Kevin de Bruyne effort either side of half-time.
After his team created a number of chances throughout the game, Dyche was relatively satisfied with elements of the performance, particularly after suffering a number of larger defeats at the same venue in recent seasons.
But he insists that Burnley need to start taking their chances if they are to climb the Premier League table.
“I think it was a better performance here. It has been tough in recent times coming here, but we did ok, said Dyche.
“They still created chances – that is what they do, Manchester City.

“But we had good chances ourselves and that has not been easy to do in the past.
“It is tough to come here and get anything, but the signs were there that all things were pointed in the right direction.
“The energy - I liked that, the belief in what we are trying to achieve as well. We didn’t just wait for the game and come to defend. We tried to take the game on.
“There were a lot of good things about the performance but we have to take our chances.”
The Clarets team carved out some great opportunities, the pick of the bunch in the first half falling to Josh Brownhill who steered the ball inches wide of the post.
Chris Wood and Ashley Barnes then went close in the second half as Burnley caused the Premier League champions problems.
Although Burnley failed to keep a clean sheet, it was another impressive defensive performance from 20 year-old Nathan Collins after his debut at Norwich City last time out.

Dyche added: “The two centre-halves were both outstanding.
“It is a learning curve for Nathan, I said that before the game. He has a really good attitude and the way he is learning and adapting to the group.
“Tarky (James Tarkowski) was outstanding again. But yeah, it is good signs for Nathan - he is learning and learning well.
“It is not easy coming to these parts and he just got on with it, nice and calmly. He has a good attitude, and I’m really impressed.
“He is still relatively young as well but continues to be a good player for us.”
