Burnley U18s were made to rue missed chances as they ended their season with a 2-1 defeat to AFC Bournemouth on Saturday afternoon.
15-year-old Kian McMahon-Brown was on target for the young Clarets after coming on as a substitute, but it wasn’t enough to extend the team’s unbeaten run to seven matches.
Jon Ander Vilar Robinson returned in goal and Ryan Tioffo made his first start since returning from a long-term injury, having come off the bench to score a brace at Peterborough United last week.
Burnley started the game quickly, creating three openings of note within the opening 10 minutes.
The first was a fantastic team move that ended with the Bournemouth ‘keeper producing a fine save to deny Zach Johnson, before Benji Wetshi turned over from close range and Tioffo hit the bar.
The young Clarets dominated possession and territory for the remainder of the first half but conceded against the run of play in the 42nd minute.
A slack pass gifted possession to Charlie Stevens, who finished into an empty net from 30 yards.

The second half started in a similar vein to which the first ended and Trialist B almost restored parity but slipped at the vital moment.
Manager Tony Philliskirk introduced U16s players McMahon-Brown and Brandon Pouani shortly after the hour and the former made an impact quickly, firing in an equaliser off the left-hand post.
Bournemouth retook the lead courtesy of a Karlos Gregory penalty and Burnley continued to push forward in a stop start game that finished with 10 minutes of added time.
Despite their efforts they were unable to find a second equaliser and finish 2023/24 4th in the Professional Development League North section with 47 points from 30 matches.
