Tony Philliskirk’s youth team shared the spoils with Swansea City, drawing 3-3 in Professional Development League action at the Burnley Training Centre.
The young Clarets had led by two heading into time added on at the end of the second half, but saw a late comeback from the visitors prevent them from making it four wins in a row in all competitions.
Striker – and captain – Joe Westley again led the line up front for Burnley who had 15-year-old Georgie Kenny on the bench, involved at U18 level for the first time.
Joining the rest of the country and beyond in mourning the death of HRH Queen Elizabeth II, a minute’s silence was held prior to kick-off.

First Half
After a relatively quiet start to proceedings, it was Burnley who opened the scoring 19 minutes in through Vernon Masara with the first chance of the contest.
Defender Joe Ashton drilled the ball across the face of goal, with Masara there at the back post to tap home into an empty net.
At the other end four minutes later, Harry Moss then denied the visitors an equaliser, tipping a snap shot behind for a corner which Philliskirk’s side dealt with. The towering goalkeeper could do nothing to prevent Swansea’s leveller when it eventually came on 25 minutes though.
Geoff Bony – son of ex-Swans & Manchester City man Wilfried – worked some space inside the area and accelerated away from his man to tuck the ball into the bottom corner.
Not dispirited, Burnley reacted well and came close through Westley just after the half-hour mark, but the frontman could only guide his effort narrowly wide.
The young Clarets would lead at the break though thanks to Ryan Tioffo, who on 37 minutes took advantage of a defensive error to lob Swansea ‘keeper Evan Watts from 30 yards out, showing a real calmness in doing so.

It could’ve been three moments later as Tioffo again went close, curling one over, while Moss also held on to a strike from Iwan Morgan before the half-time whistle, but it remained 2-1 come the interval.
Second Half
At the restart, the young Clarets started the brighter. Westley saw his shot held by Watts having been deflected after twisting and turning inside the area to get his strike away, but he wasn’t to be denied for a second time on 53 minutes.
Wiktor Gromek worked the ball well, showing nice feet to beat two of the Swans backline, and cut back for the captain to hammer home a third in clinical style.
15 minutes later, defender Ashton then passed up a glorious opportunity for a fourth from close range at a corner, and Philliskirk’s side would eventually pay for it.
Forward Kenny got on for his debut in the youth team from the bench as one of three changes made throughout the second half, as the visitors began to build pressure with a little over 10 minutes of time remaining.

First getting in behind with Josh Carey who saw his low cross – which was heading into the back of the net – cleared away by Nathan James, the pressure eventually told as the clock ticked past 90 with Kyrell Wilson halving the deficit.
And with a total of eight minutes added on at the end of the game following stoppages in what had been a stop-start affair, the visitors would go on to get their equaliser.
Westley first had a shot held by Watts in the second minute of time added on, before striker Morgan struck a last-gasp leveller into the bottom corner four minutes later.
Burnley’s youth team now return to action on Friday – September 23 – away at Wigan Athletic in an 11:00 kick-off.
