Welcome back everybody, for a Saturday afternoon of football here at Turf Moor.
In today’s programme, we commemorate Her late Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II. Burnley FC, along with the football community, were deeply saddened by Her Majesty’s passing last week and in today’s issue we take a look back at her visits, alongside the late HRH Prince Philip, to Turf Moor and Burnley, memorable occasions for all in attendance.
Her late Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II dedicated her whole life to Great Britain and the Commonwealth, serving her country with pride and devotion and as a football club we will be paying tribute to her at today’s game.
We arrive at this afternoon’s fixture on the back of a draw at Preston North End midweek. It was a well-earned point against a team who concede very few goals.
I want to make special mention to the travelling Clarets who have supported the squad both at Preston and at West Bromwich Albion recently. Your support has been tremendous and is very much appreciated by the players and management team.
Every game in this league poses a different challenge and today we face Bristol City. The Robins have started the season strongly and have recently gone on an eight-game unbeaten run which was only ended at Norwich City on Wednesday night. Therefore, the roar of the crowd will be the twelfth player on the pitch as we aim to secure the three points.
We were delighted to launch our third kit this week, which will be available to purchase in the Clarets Store and online. Proudly boasting the Classic Football Shirts sponsor logo, the design features a map of Burnley, paying homage to the fans and the town, with all roads leading to Turf Moor. As a Club we were eager to use fans to launch the kit, and I want to say a big thank you to all of the supporters who were involved. From children, to families, adults and even a new-born Claret, through this kit we celebrate you and the journey so many of you make week in, week out, to support the team and the lengths you go for this football club.
Ahead of kick-off this afternoon, I want to wish Vincent, his backroom staff and the players the best of luck. Let’s all get behind the team and make it a memorable Saturday on home turf.
Up the Clarets!
Alan
