Fylde score 2 to secure the points
Burnley arrived at Mill Farm on the back of a 4-1 defeat to Nottingham Forest Women at the weekend.
In a frantic start, Fylde pressed Burnley high, but the Clarets managed to minimise any danger.
The Clarets made an early change in the opening half an hour when an injured Olivia Greenhalgh was replaced with Dominique Cooper in midfield.
Fylde were putting the pressure on with Sammy Fleck, Olivia Wilson and Cara Bickett working hard at the back to protect keeper Leah Jackson who played in place of an injured Lauren Bracewell.
The Coasters opened the scoring in the 33rd minute when Faye McCoy cleverly nestled the ball in the corner, 1-0.
For the rest of the half the Clarets kept pushing. Evie Priestley and Courtney Willis were giving Fylde’s defenders a tough time in the final third but couldn’t convert any chances.
The side remained unchanged at the start of the second half and the intensity was high.
Burnley played some good balls into the box but couldn't manage to get that elusive equaliser.
In the 65th minute a ball from Hollinshead found Hughes who doubled the hosts lead.
In the 67th minute the chances rung in for the Clarets, Kerry Hope came on for Megan Dykes and five minutes later in an attacking minded change, defender Cara Bickett made way for forward Michelle Saunders.
Burnley FC Women Manger, Matt Bee said: “I can't fault the effort, endeavour and desire from the group. We applied the game plan well and nullified the threats, unfortunately we didn't deal with a cross and you can't give Faye McCoy chances like that.
"We changed shape at half time to try and ask more questions and I feel like we imposed ourselves on the second half well.
"We have to now set up and prepare for a good Derby side. The group will work hard again and we'll go there ready to attack the game with the correct mentality."
