Clarets defender James Tarkowski discusses the positive mood in the camp, facing Aston Villa at Turf Moor on Saturday afternoon and keeping focused on the job at hand
Tarky on the atmosphere amongst the squad:
“It’s good, it’s been an enjoyable week. There’s a really positive atmosphere around the place and we’re looking to continue with that over the final weeks of the season.
“We’ve just got to put points on the board. We need to look after ourselves and if we do that, then we’ll be fine.”
Tarky on the talent within the group:
“I know the quality that we’ve got in this group and the togetherness plus the team ethic that we’ve got. We’ve been so close a lot this season and then the fine details have let us down, but we’ve found those fine details in the recent games and got it right.
“The younger players have been massive for us, probably the best players over the last few weeks. Dwight [McNeil] has played with a smile on his face and if Dwight’s smiling, then you know he’s playing football well.
“Collo [Nathan Collins] has been exceptional, you forget how young he is because he looks so old, but he’s performed at an incredible level considering it’s his first season in this league.
“Everyone - to be fair - to a man has stepped up and performed, and we’re going to need that to continue because we’ve got some tough games coming up. We still need to put points on the board.”
Tarky on facing Villa twice in two weeks:
“It’s unusual but I’m sure we’ll all get a good look at each other this weekend and then it’s a quick turnaround to play them again the week after.
“Strange circumstances but a good opportunity for us to go out there and put another three points on the board. The way that we’ve been playing and performing, with the quality that we’ve got, we’re going out to win games.”
Tarky on the Villans threat:
“I think they’re probably one of the teams where their results don’t show how well they’ve played in some games. Sometimes results don’t reflect how good a side can be so we know the dangers that they’ve got going forward.
“They’re an exciting team to watch so it’ll be difficult for us to come up against them but we’re in good form and we’re feeling good so we’re all looking forward to it.”
