Ashley Barnes was the star of the show as Burnley put five goals past Millwall to book their place in the fourth round of the Emirates FA Cup.

The striker marked his first start of the season with two trademark goals at Turf Moor and after the match, he spoke of his happiness.

THE IMPORTANCE OF NETTING EARLY

"I was delighted to get those goals today. To see my name on the team sheet put a big smile on my face, and I wanted to go out there and enjoy myself.

"It (the first goal) was a great team goal and today was about ourselves and the reaction that we needed to have, coming off the back of a draw earlier this week and a few bad results.

"Luckily we were able to put on a professional performance, and it was nice to have that feel-good factor around the ground today."

CHASING A FIRST CLARETS HAT-TRICK

"My hamstring was getting a bit tight towards the end! I was still trying to finish it off with a hat-trick and I thought today was going to be the day.

"I said to my wife this morning that I was going to get one, and she just said to concentrate on myself, get my head down and focus on the basics.

"Unfortunately, it didn’t come but that hunger’s still there and I’ve got plenty of life left in me yet. That drive to improve every day in training is still there at 36 and that competitiveness is something that I’ll always have."

BUILDING MOMENTUM

"It breathes confidence within the group and there’s that feel-good factor heading into the changing room.

"We’ve got to build on this and take it into our league form now, and that’s something we’ll be concentrating on doing.

"Hopefully, we can go and surprise a few at Liverpool next weekend."
