Burnley Women have their eyes on a place in the semi finals of the FA Women’s National League Cup but will have to see off Middlesbrough this weekend if they are to make the last four.

The Clarets will be buoyed by the fact that they have beaten the Teessiders twice already this campaign, but certainly won’t be looking past their fellow third-tier side.

Because of the postponement of last week’s league match at home to Wolverhampton Wanderers, Lou Roberts’ team’s last match remains the Adobe Women’s FA Cup victory over Peterborough United before Christmas.

It finished 7-0 on Sunday 14th December, with Charlie Chadwick’s 14th goal of the season breaking the deadlock.

Yana Daniëls made it 2-0 before half-time and the Clarets stepped on the accelerator after the break with Millie Ravening, Charley Docherty and Emma Siddall netting in addition to Claudia Walker’s brace.

The week before that was a trip to Middlesbrough in the league, in which the Clarets ended a wet and windy day by coming out on top.

Full-backs Thea Paul and Charley Docherty both found themselves on the scoresheet that day, as did Chadwick.

Our FA Women’s National League Cup campaign started with three wins from three in Group T, followed by 6-1 and 4-0 victories over Norton & Stockton Ancients and Real Bedford respectively.

Middlesbrough Women have enjoyed a similarly productive run in this competition to date, winning Group V courtesy of two wins and a draw.

Then came a strong 1-0 victory over Rugby Borough in the first knockout round, before the Northerners beat Liverpool Feds 2-1 after extra time in the last 16.

Their last outing was also on 14th December, when they beat AFC Fylde in the Adobe Women’s FA Cup thanks to strikes from Abby Holmes and Armani Maxwell, and an own goal.

The Teessiders are managed by Joe Lillie, who took charge following the departure of Michael Mulhern in November 2025.

Players to look out for include leading scorer Rebecca Ferguson, who has six goals to her name thus far, and captain Millie Bell, a ‘Boro fan who has made more than 150 appearances for the club.

Darwen FC’s Anchor Ground Stadium (BB3 0BB) is the venue for this 2pm kick-off and tickets can be purchased on the day with cash only. Adults are £5, while concessions are £2.50.

Burnley men’s team season ticket holders can enter for free by presenting their card at the turnstiles.
