Head Coach happy with 'pleasing' FA Cup performance

Scott Parker was delighted with his side's performance in Saturday's 5-1 win over Millwall which saw the Lancashire side secure a spot in the fourth round of the Emirates FA Cup.

Free-flowing in front of goal and showing a togetherness to be proud of, the Clarets Head Coach hopes that the win will breed confidence moving forward.

BUILDING ON THE PERFORMANCE

“Really pleased overall. First and foremost, I think we’ve seen it over many years in the FA Cup, it’s not always easy. Not against a team that come here going for play-off spots and have had a real good season to date.

“I thought we approached the game incredibly well. Our general demeanour, our approach towards the game was spot on. I thought we showed some real quality, which was very pleasing. We scored some good goals and overall, a really good performance and one we can build on.”

PLAYERS TAKING THEIR OPPORTUNITY

“I was very impressed. I know we always preach about it and it’s not preaching, its facts, that we’ve got a really tight group here. A group that are really together and work tirelessly, then when they get their opportunity, they take it.

“We needed to freshen things up today, after a lot of games over this Christmas period. I thought the boys came in and applied themselves superbly well and gave food for thought really in terms of their general performance.

“The boys coming in, Jaydon Banel scoring his first goal, was really, really pleasing. I’m really pleased with that.”

LIVELY BRUUN LARSEN AMONG THE ASSISTS

“I was pleased for Jacob; he played happy today. He was in and around it, looked really active, was in and around a lot of the goals that we created and showed his quality.

“Along with everyone really, I wouldn’t want to single anyone out today because I thought to a man, to a team, we were superb, showed our quality and really dominated for large parts.”

BREEDING CONFIDENCE

“There was a lot on this game today; I think that’s fair to say. Obviously, we’ve been searching for a win for some time now and you're coming into an FA Cup game where you’re trying to get that off your back a little bit – so that was key.

“Now of course there’s levels and we understand that. Over the course of the last 12, 13 games there’s been certain parts where I feel we were worthy of more than we got. There have been other parts where that has not been the case.

“Today the main focus was just us turning up, putting in a strong performance, getting the win and that’s exactly what we did. We’ll take the positives; we’ll take the learnings from it and I’m hoping that this young group can have some confidence from today’s game because it was a positive one. I could see that in their faces; I could see that in their demeanour and the way they played."
