Midfielder discusses draw with the Cherries

James Ward-Prowse felt that Saturday's draw with AFC Bournemouth at Turf Moor was a 'fair result' in a game that saw the Clarets secure a point and a clean sheet.

Speaking afterwards, the 31-year-old talked about feeling good after playing his first 90 minutes for the Club and how he uses his experience to help younger players in the squad through the challenges of fighting at the bottom of the top-flight.

EVENLY BALANCED DRAW

“It was a strange sort of game; I think it kind of ebbed and flowed. They had a good start in the game, and then we grew into it towards the end of the first half and had a good chance from Jaidon.

“No team really dominated, I thought it was kind of evenly balanced and probably a draw is a fair result.”

SOLID DEFENSIVE WORK

“I think that’s the base of every good team, to ensure that we have good defensive stability. So, we can take a lot of confidence from that, and I'm sure if we can continue that in the next few games and the chances fall our way, it’s a good turning point.”

JAIDON'S CHANCE

“The game is won and lost in both boxes; we have to defend well in our own but obviously take our chances. I think it says a lot about the quality of Jaidon to strike the ball the way he did and maybe it would have gone in if he didn’t get a sweet connection on it. But that’s the way it goes sometimes.”

FEELING BETTER

“I’m feeling good, physically better week by week. Obviously, it was a long time without any game time, so it’s important to build week by week. I’m feeling better, growing in confidence, and starting to enjoy my football again.”

USING HIS EXPERIENCE

“I think everybody leads in their own ways. I’m not maybe a typical shouter and baller. In that sense it’s more about just speaking in the right moments and when you speak, speak well.

“You can feel the game changing, the momentum shifts and it’s important in those moments that we try and use our heads and our experience to try and manage those moments and ensure that we control the game. Even if we don’t have the ball, we’re still in control. So, that’s part of being an older player.”

KNOWING WHAT WE NEED TO DO

“The position is obvious, it’s clear what we need to achieve and what we need to do. Today was a good starting point with a clean sheet and a point. It’s important that we maintain that momentum now and hopefully put a good run together.”
