Burnley FC Women are pleased to confirm the signing of full back Jessica Simpson on dual registration terms from Manchester United Women’s Academy.
Clitheroe-born, 17-year-old Simpson played for Burnley’s Girls team in her younger days before joining United aged 11, and was a part of the Red Devils’ U21 side last term which won a league & cup double.
Primarily operating on the left-hand side of the backline, the teenager awaits her senior competitive debut but has been involved for United in pre-season friendlies over the course of 2021/22 & 2022/23.
Simpson is also an England U17 international and becomes the fourth signing for the Claret Women on a dual registration from the Red Devils this term following Alyssa Aherne, Ella Kinzett & Emma Taylor.
Having completed the deal to link up with Jonathan Morgan’s side for this season, she said: “I’m buzzing to be able to come to Burnley, and I’m thankful to the two Clubs for getting it done, because I think this is a Club which is heading in the right direction.
“Off the pitch, the interest from those in charge is a genuine one in terms of the women’s team and I think you can see that from the ambitions of the side on the pitch this season.
“They’ve had a great start, and I’m just excited to get going now being a part of it.”
Boss Morgan meanwhile added, “Jess is another fantastic talent who I’m absolutely delighted to have through the door.
“Again, like with the three that have come before her, we’ve got to say thanks to Manchester United for allowing their player to come to us and trusting us with Jess.
“I think we’ll really benefit from what she can bring to the squad, and in turn she will benefit from being with us.
“We saw her in the friendly we played against United’s U21 side in pre-season, and we’ve seen her already again in training with us before officially getting the deal done. Jess will undoubtedly be an asset.”
Simpson is in contention to make her debut for the Claret Women this afternoon as they take on Boldmere St Michaels Women down in the Midlands (KO 14:00).
