Jay Rodriguez says he’s always happy to be amongst the goals, but wanted to give his teammates the credit for their hard work, after scoring the winning goal in Saturday’s 2-1 win over Bristol City.

The Clarets frontman spoke to the Club’s media after the game about his goal, the result being a deserved one, and keeping focused.

Rodriguez on deserving the win:

“We deserved the result today, and we have been unlucky in other results recently, but that’s football. We’ll stick the way we play, how we’re set up and how we’re prepared by the manager & staff.

“We believe in every bit of it, so we know what we’re doing on the pitch, and it’s really good today that it’s worked. We’re on a journey and things are only going to get better.”

Rodriguez on the feeling when the winner went in:

“It was [a relief] but I think we believe it’s going to come, so the belief’s there for it to come off. Towards the end, we could maybe have a few more, but that’s the way we play.

“We grind teams down, we probe, and we know they’re going to break & bend eventually. I’m very pleased with the win today, we’ve deserved it. I think we’ve been unlucky in our last few results, but it’s been good [today].”

Rodriguez on new faces settling in:

“It's been a big change with a lot of people in, but everyone’s just gelled really quickly. They’re all good lads who are willing to work and we’re on the plan with the method of how we play.

“Everyone’s willing to learn and that’s the key to improve to help the team throughout the squad, it’s really important.”

Rodriguez on the Clarets ambitions:

“For every team in the Championship, the main aim is to get out of it and get into the Premier League, but we’re realistic as well and we know how tough it is.

"We believe in how we set up, how we play, and how we prepared, and we know we can hurt teams to get many wins.”

Rodriguez on targets:

“You always have your own personal ones, but I never let them out [publicly]. I always keep them to myself, but I am pleased. I always want to score every game I play and every time I’m on the pitch, so I’ll just keep working hard on my game.”
