Vincent Kompany believes that Saturday afternoon’s victory against Bristol City was the perfect way to sign off for the September international break, and wants his team to continue from where they’ve left off when Club action returns next month.

The Clarets chief addressed the media post-match to discuss the 2-1 win, the importance of progression, and ‘Happy Place’ Turf Moor.

Kompany on the victory:

“It’s good. In front of our fans, this is becoming a really difficult place to come and get a result and we’ve got to keep it like this, it’s been a good day for us. These games, when you’re one [goal] ahead, it can go both ways.

“They’ve scored a lot of goals and played well against Norwich in midweek, which is why this is such a good win, and a good performance too.”

Kompany on match winner Jay Rodriguez:

“He’s a class above really. He just oozes class and dominance, and we’re very lucky to have him.

“Our goals are usually the result of a good team effort, and today was no different. I’m really happy [with the two goals].

Kompany on progression:

“I think that’s our biggest asset this season. We can improve, we’re one of the teams that can improve the most, and that’s something we have to hold on to.

“It has nothing to do with the amount of points for me. I’m happy because the games we’ve played, we’ve played well, and the results could’ve been a bit better in certain games but in & around is where we want to be for now.”

Kompany on taking it game by game:

“We’ve got the equivalent of an entire Premier League [fixture] list still to come, but the biggest thing for us is that there was a lot of uncertainty before the start of this season, no one knew where to pitch this team, not even us.

“There’s some music in this team, you can see that from how we’re playing now, and we’re going to keep improving.”

Kompany on the international break:

“It’s good for the coaching staff! Some of the players are going to their national teams, so it won’t be as much of a break for them, but we get to prepare now for the month of October.

“That’s going to come and going to test us all again, so it’ll be good to hopefully have everyone fit by then.”
