Burnley Women return to Turf Moor against Wolverhampton Wanderers on Sunday and Head Coach Rebecca Sawiuk says their games at the stadium are something she and her players ‘treasure’.
It’s the first time that the team will take to the hallowed turf this season, with the team’s previous home games being played at Nelson FC’s Daisy Communications Arena.
“Those of us who have experienced a Turf Moor match day before can’t wait to return,” she said.
“I’m excited for the newer members of our team, staff and players alike, to have that experience toO because the first time for me was really special.
“When I stepped onto the pitch I was surrounded by staff I call friends, and to be stood in an arena like that just fills you with energy and pride.”
Burnley Women’s last two games of the 2023/24 season were at Turf, with a 3-1 victory over Liverpool Feds being followed up by a disappointing defeat to Derby County on the final day.
“That first game was big,” Sawiuk continued.
“Celebrating all the goals was a real high and to mark Thea Paul’s service to the football club was memorable too.
“The second game was a loss, but we were able to provide many of the squad with a first experience of playing at Turf on that day and those learning opportunities will be important for us this season.
“At the Derby game my family, who are based in the south east, came to support me and to see my niece Lola and my nephew Arthur fully kitted out in their claret kits was a really special moment that I will always cherish.”

Having started the season with back-to-back wins, Wolverhampton Wanderers have stumbled of late and lost their last two games against Stoke City and Nottingham Forest.
However, Sawiuk doesn’t think that’s a fair reflection of their abilities and expressed just how tough an opponent she thinks the Midlanders will be.
“Wolves are a top side in this division and continue to improve year on year,” she said.
“They have a real mix of exciting young talent, long-serving players and some real quality.
“Macca (Dan McNamara, manager) drives his team forward and they will be well organised, hard to beat and will always compete with real spirit.”
As such, the Burnley Head Coach finished by encouraging as many fans as possible to head down to the stadium and get behind her players.

“I’d love for as many fans as possible who enjoy football and follow Burnley to come and get behind the women’s team,” she continued.
“We want to connect with the town and make you all proud.
“If you have already bought tickets for this game, I’d like to take the opportunity to thank you - your support of us and the women’s game means we get to live out our dream.
“Football is an entertainment business and without your support, getting the opportunity to meet you all and hopefully inspiring the next generation, it just doesn’t feel the same.”
Tickets are still available to purchased ahead of Sunday, priced at £10 for adults and £5 for U18s.
It’s important to note that if you’ve purchased tickets for Wolves, you’ll receive a 50% discount for the next women’s team match at Turf Moor against West Bromwich Albion on Sunday 22nd September.
You will also receive 10 loyalty points for each women’s fixture at Turf Moor that you attend.
