Burnley took a point from their first midweek game of the 2022/23 campaign, drawing 1-1 at home to Hull City in Sky Bet Championship action.
Both goals came in the first half at Turf Moor with Jay Rodriguez’s 34th minute strike cancelling out Ozan Tufan’s opener for the visitors nine minutes earlier.
Vincent Kompany made three changes to his Clarets lineup from a 1-0 defeat to Watford last time out. Jack Cork returned to the side along with Vitinho and Rodriguez, both of whom started for the first time this season.
Meanwhile, the trio of Dara Costelloe, Manuel Benson and Ashley Barnes dropped to the bench.
In the opposition camp, Hull remained unchanged from their win over Norwich City. Summer signing Oscar Estupinan grabbed both of the Tigers goals in that game, and headed up the attack oncemore alongside Iranian international Allahyar Sayyadmanesh.
First Half
Looking to make a quick impact, Rodriguez took aim on the half volley from distance six minutes in, and was close to netting a spectacular opener but saw his effort go just wide of the target.

Three minutes later, he also had a strike smothered one-on-one by Hull goalkeeper Matt Ingram after a slip from a City defender before Josh Brownhill fired a dipping free-kick narrowly over the bar from out on the left wing.
But, with one of their first real attacks of the contest on 25 minutes, visitors Hull took the lead through Tufan. The Turkish international had been played through on goal by a glancing header from teammate Estupinan.
Searching for a response, Ian Maatsen had a volley held by Ingram before providing the assist for the equaliser, which came on 34 minutes via the foot of Rodriguez.
An inch-perfect ball out to the left wing from Josh Cullen found Maatsen, and when the full back delivered a low cross into the area with the same quality which Ingram couldn’t reach, forward Rodriguez tapped home for his first of the campaign.
Maatsen almost had a second assist of the night to his name before the interval as Cullen rose and headed his floated cross goalward, but the effort hit the side netting and it remained level come half time.

Second Half
Taylor Harwood-Bellis had to be alert shortly after the restart, clearing a shot from Estupinan off the line despite the Hull forward looking to have been in an offside position when Tufan slipped him in.
The defender had a role at the other end not long after, surging forward and slipping in Vitinho via Connor Roberts, but the Brazilian saw his shot held by Ingram.
Brownhill also saw a volley hit the side netting, while Rodriguez poked an effort at goal on the stretch which was unable to trouble Ingram, before Nathan Tella was introduced from the bench for his Turf Moor debut.
Benson also entered the action at the same time with Burnley pushing for a second , and Barnes then replaced Rodriguez with eight minutes remaining to add to Burnley’s attacking threat trying to break down the Tigers low defensive block.
It ended in a draw though despite continuous pressure, and the Clarets now return to action on Saturday back at Turf Moor in a Lancashire derby with Blackpool (kick-off 15:00 BST).
