Burnley returned to the top of the Sky Bet Championship on Tuesday night, after a 1-0 win over Norwich City at Turf Moor extended the Clarets' unbeaten run to 14 consecutive matches.
Jay Rodriguez's 80th minute penalty proved to be the difference in a dominant performance from the home side.
Vincent Kompany made four changes from the side that beat Sunderland 4-2 on the weekend, as Ian Maatsen, Jack Cork, Jordan Beyer, and Jay Rodriguez returned to the side. Ashley Barnes, Connor Roberts, and Charlie Taylor were named as substitutes, with Josh Cullen missing out through injury.
All the team news ahead of Saturday's clash with the Canaries
First Half
The Clarets started on the front foot and came close to finding an early opener, as Nathan Tella’s rifled effort fizzed just wide of the post.
Moments later, the home side came close again, this time the in-form Anass Zaroury curled a strike inches off target of Angus Gunn’s goal.
Tella then carved open another opportunity on the 20th minute mark, as Johann Berg Gudmundsson picked out the forward, who fired straight at Gunn.
Burnley were constantly knocking on the door and once again Zaroury was involved, this time he saw his drilled strike blocked by Grant Hanley inside the area.
After a dominant first 45 from the Clarets, with nine efforts towards goal, Norwich entered the break without a single shot and minimal touches of the ball.
Second Half
City’s first effort on target came two minutes into the second half, as Todd Cantwell’s close-range strike was blocked by the legs of Gudmundsson, before being cleared from danger.
The Clarets then had their first chance of the second 45, as the ball fell nicely to Josh Brownhill at the back post following a counter attack, but his shot sailed wide of Gunn’s goal.
With 20 minutes remaining, Kompany turned to his bench and introduced the duo of Connor Roberts and Halil Dervişoğlu in replace of Vitinho and Tella, as the home side searched for an opener.
And with 10 minutes left on the clock, the Clarets were awarded a penalty, after Grant Hanley handled in the area.
Up stepped Rodriguez, who made no mistake and fired home from the spot to give Kompany's men the lead.
