Good afternoon and welcome to Turf Moor for today’s game against QPR.
We are in action following Tuesday evening’s 2-2 draw at Rotherham United. It was another positive point on the road, where we showed real quality on the pitch and scored two great goals.
On the back of consecutive away games, I’m pleased to be back at home this afternoon in front of our home supporters, for what could be a special day as we edge closer to our goal.
This week we were thrilled to announce the exciting news that our women’s team are set to play their last game of the season at Turf Moor. It’ll be an historic moment as it’s the first time the team have taken to the turf, and I do hope as many of you as possible can show your support on the day.
The team have enjoyed a phenomenal season so far and are gearing up for a big game against Wolves Women tomorrow, as we both battle for the league title.
I’m pleased with the positive steps forward that we have taken as we continue to grow the women’s game here at the Club. Over the past few weeks, following feedback from the Burnley FC Advisory Board, we have been integrating the Burnley FC Women social media accounts into the main football club accounts, ensuring that the women’s team content can reach a larger audience. We have big ambitions for the squad and I’m keen that supporters can celebrate their successes and keep up to date with their progress.
Kick-off for the women’s game at Turf Moor against Liverpool Feds is 2pm on Sunday 30th April. Tickets are £5 for adults, £2.50 for U18s and can be purchased online, in person or over the phone at the ticket office. It’ll be a fantastic occasion and hopefully a real celebration of how far our women’s team has come at the club, so please do join us if you can.
Today’s game against QPR is our dedicated Community Day fixture, and we will be highlighting and celebrating all the fantastic work conducted by Burnley FC in the Community.
The charity delivers over 50 projects in and around the Burnley and East Lancashire area, across key areas including mental health, education, youth violence and food poverty, supporting all members of the community, whatever age, gender, background or demographic.
This afternoon supporters can enjoy plenty of community activities in the FanZone ahead of kick-off. The charity will also be selling special edition wristbands and collecting donations around the stadium, any donation you can give will make a real difference.
On Tuesday we face Blackburn Rovers at Ewood Park and as I’m sure many of you are aware I have expressed my disappointment at our ticket allocation for the fixture. I have asked Councillor Afrasaib Anwar MBE and his wife Tahra to take our places in the Chairman’s Lounge at the game.
The Lancashire Derby is a significant date in our fixture calendar and I’m pleased Afrasaib and Tahra will be in attendance to represent our community.
We are expecting a sell-out crowd at Turf Moor today for our penultimate home game of the season, and we have an opportunity to make it one for the memory books. As ever, thank you for your continuous support - let’s crank the noise up and get behind Vincent and the players.
Up the Clarets!
Alan
