Good afternoon and welcome to Turf Moor for today’s game against Preston North End.
This week we have been mourning the tragic passing of our dear colleague Denise Mclaren.
Denise dedicated nearly 20 years to Burnley Football Club, working in our catering and hospitality department, and touched many lives across her time here.
We will be remembering Denise at today’s fixture, and the players will be wearing black armbands to mark her passing. To Denise’s friends and family, we are all thinking of you at this incredibly difficult time.
Tuesday evening saw us progress to the fifth round of the FA Cup, following our 2-1 win against Ipswich Town.
I must give credit to Ipswich who made it tricky for us, both home and away, however I’m proud of the team for the character they showed to come away with the win on the night.
In further good news, it was announced yesterday that Vincent and Ian Maatsen have won January’s Sky Bet Manager of the Month and Player of the Month awards respectively.
Vincent has won the award twice already, and has successfully guided the team to three points in every league match since the defeat at Bramall Lane in early November, an incredible achievement.
I’m also thrilled for Ian, who alongside his Player of the Month award, has also been nominated for The PFA Vertu Motors Fans' Player of the Month award. The 20-year-old has been impressive, bagging a brace against Swansea in the new year and put in a man-of-the-match display in the win against Coventry City.
I’m incredibly proud of our talented team of players, manager, and coaching staff, well done to you both for your accolades.
Finally, I also want to take this opportunity to congratulate our U21s squad, who progressed to the semi-finals of the Lancashire FA Senior Cup with a 3-1 win against Blackpool recently. A fantastic effort from the team to reach the last eight, best of luck in the semi-final.
Back to this afternoon’s Championship clash, together let’s get behind Vincent and the team, and aim for another three points.
Up the Clarets!
Alan
