Burnley’s U18 side were beaten 2-1 in a tight game against Peterborough United at the Burnley Training Centre in Professional Development League action.
The Posh took the lead through captain James Dornelly following a scramble after a corner, before Trevon Bryan brought the Young Clarets level just before the half hour mark.
Benjamin Arthur put the visitors back in front from another corner and despite Lewis Forshaw saving a late penalty, the U18s fell to a close-fought loss.
Burnley made five changes to the side that fell just short away to Coventry City in the league, with Tom Tweedy coming into the side for the first time – since signing from Welsh club Penybont last month – in place of Vernon Masara.

Tosin Olopade, Joe Ashton, Callum West and Wiktor Gromek were the others to return to the 11 as Ollie Sweeney, a trialist, Frankie Deane and Rohan Vaughan dropped out.
First Half
After a quiet opening ten minutes it was the Clarets who had the first real chance of the game, with Lucas Wane pressuring a Posh defender into giving the ball away before slipping through debutant Tweedy who forced Jake Wesi into a superb save.
Tweedy found himself in behind once more but could only lob his effort over the bar after a clever pass from Ashton.
Burnley were made to rue their missed chances as the visitors put themselves ahead after a corner was whipped into the area which was scrambled home by Peterborough defender Dornelly.
The Young Clarets battled their way level less than ten minutes later however, as Welshman Tweedy drove at the Posh defence before slotting through his strike partner Bryan who did well to finish under the onrushing ‘keeper.

A few half chances followed, with Forshaw holding a strike from Andre Changunda, goalscorer Bryan hammering over and Gromek’s low shot held by Wesi, but the teams would go into the break level.
Second Half
Once more the half started quietly, with only small chances from Harley Mills and Gromek troubling either keeper for the first 15 minutes of the second 45.
However, the visitors made their first clear cut chance count, as from a corner once more, defender Arthur rose highest at the back post to head the ball past Forshaw – who missed a chance to claim the ball by inches.
Peterborough were looking dangerous from set-pieces, and it showed yet again as an in-swinger from Mills bounced off the top of Forshaw’s crossbar and was inches away from dropping in.
Bryan had a low drive saved after good work on the edge of the area before Posh were awarded a spot-kick in injury time after Forshaw was adjudged to have brought down Bayley McCann.
McCann stepped up to take the resulting penalty, but saw his effort saved by Forshaw as the ‘keeper got down low to his right to keep out the strike from 12 yards, in what proved to be the last effort of the game.
