Good evening, welcome to Turf Moor for tonight’s FA Cup Fourth Round replay against Ipswich Town.
Over the weekend, the Club received the tremendously sad news that Denise Mclaren, our Catering Manager, had tragically passed away. Denise had worked at Burnley Football Club for nearly 20 years and was a well-respected and loved member of the team.
Denise’s passing has come as a shock to us all and she will be greatly missed. My thoughts, and those of everybody connected to the Club, are with her family at this incredibly sad time, especially her children Darcie and Cole & sister Julie.
As a mark of respect, our players will wear black armbands when we play Preston on Saturday.
We arrive at today’s game on the back of our 3-0 win away to Norwich City on Saturday. It was a brilliant team performance, with three great goals. A big thank you to the travelling fans who made the trip, your support was appreciated as always.
The end of January also saw the end of the transfer window. We welcomed defenders Ameen Al-Dakhil and Hjalmar Ekdal, forwards Lyle Foster and Michael Obafemi, and Enock Agyei to the Club, who made an immediate switch to Belgian side K.V. Mechelen on loan until the end of the season.
I’m delighted to have the players onboard and I look forward to seeing them develop here in claret and blue.
In further good news, we also announced that Johann Berg Gudmundsson has signed a contract extension until the summer of 2024 with the option of a further year. It’s fantastic to see Johann extend his stay, he is such a talented player and it’s great to have him amongst the group.
In addition to the incomings, the window saw us say goodbye to Wout Weghorst, Matthew Lowton, Will Norris, Ashley Westwood and Kevin Long, while CJ Egan-Riley, Luke McNally, Owen Dodgson and Bobby Thomas went out on loan to various Clubs across the UK.
I want to wish all the players the best of luck and thank them for their contributions.
Back to this evening’s FA Cup action, the winner of tonight’s game will host either Sheffield Wednesday or Fleetwood Town in the Fifth Round of the competition, so it’s all to play for.
Best of luck to Vincent and the squad, we’re right behind you every step of the way.
Up the Clarets!
Alan
