With the September international break done and dusted, and 13 Clarets in total having been away on duty with their national sides, Burnley return to action on Saturday afternoon – October 1 – with a trip to Cardiff City (15:00 KO).
Prior to the break, the Clarets signed off with a 2-1 win at Turf Moor against Bristol City, with Jay Rodriguez heading home the winner after Manuel Benson’s early opener had been cancelled out.
Vincent Kompany and his side sit 4th in the Championship table ahead of Saturday’s trip over the border, having taken 17 points from the first 10 league games of the season, and have still only suffered one defeat.

Cardiff City
The Clarets will face a Bluebirds side with a new face at the helm for the first time at the Cardiff City Stadium, with Steve Morison replaced by Mark Hudson during the international break.
Hudson – a former Cardiff player – had formed part of Morison’s first-team staff, and now assumes the role of caretaker manager.
He takes over the side sat 18th in the league table after three wins in their opening 10. Last time out, the Bluebirds lost 1-0 at Huddersfield Town.
The Last Time We Met
Burnley last came up against Cardiff at Turf Moor in April 2019, running out 2-0 winners in Premier League action.

Both goals came from striker Chris Wood’s head, the first from a corner just after the half-hour mark and the second two minutes into time added on at the end of the second half when a defensive mix-up allowed the New Zealand international an open goal.
Cardiff would be relegated from the top-flight a few weeks later, and the pair haven’t met since.
