Head Coach Scott Parker celebrated ‘the best performance of the year’ as Burnley routed Queens Park Rangers 5-0 away at Loftus Road.

Braces for Zian Flemming and Jeremy Sarmiento backed up Josh Cullen’s opener as the Clarets ran riot against QPR, while also equalling the EFL record for clean sheets, in front of a bouncing away support.

And Parker waxed lyrical about his side having come back from the highs of winning promotion on Monday to deliver a superb all-round performance which took them top of the league with Leeds to play Monday.

“Incredible performance all round,” said Parker. “We were exceptional today and it’s up there with the best performance of the year.

“It was a big challenge coming here today, obviously playing a good side but there was no denying what the week entailed for us on Monday night. Getting to the point of the job where we needed to execute, and we did that.

“So, I asked the players today can we switch back into that mindset of a ruthless team that we are and come here to put in a performance and go for the next thing which is the league and I thought to a man we were top today.”

To add to the perfect day in a sunny West London, the fans were treated to the return of Aaron Ramsey after more than a year out through injury – the young midfielder getting a hero’s reception when he came on towards the end of the game.

“I was delighted for him,” added Parker. “He was involved in the goal too by winning a tackle and releasing Redders who showed real quality to set Jez up.

“I’m delighted for Aaron – there are some dark and lonely places when you’re injured for as long as he’s been injured. It’s a long road at times but he’s worked tirelessly to get to this position, so I’m pleased we got him some minutes. He was superb.”

With Burnley taking more than 1600 fans down to London for the early Saturday fixture, the Clarets were sure to make their voices heard throughout the game.

The fans never stopped, running through their long repertoire of songs and the team were quick to go and celebrate with them post-game at what was the final away match of the season.

Parker said: “They were incredible as always and have been the bedrock of everything we’ve been about this year.

“They’ve stuck with us and been that constant driver for us. They deserve today, they deserve to be seeing a team I’m sure they’re proud of.

“I’m sure if I was to talk to any one of our supporters, they’d see a team that represents them and a team that is based around hard work and togetherness and the fans have been part of that too.

“They’ve been engaged with what they’ve been seeing because this team is a together team, but I include every single one of our supporters in that too.”

With eyes now on the final game of the season against Millwall at Turf Moor, Parker insisted the target was to break the 100-point barrier and hope it brought the rewards of the title.

“As always, the main focus is on us,” he said. “Our aim at the start of this week was to go and get 100 points and we have ticked one box today, but now we have another tough game against Millwall, and we’ll see where it takes us.

“We’re going back to our stadium last game of the season which I’m delighted about in front of our home supporters and hopefully we can put in another performance like today which I’m sure we can and see where it takes us.”
