Jeremy Sarmiento described the Clarets final away game of the 2024/25 season as a 'special day' as his brace helped the team cruise to a 5-0 victory over QPR at Loftus Road.

“It was an amazing way to close our second to last game of the season. We had objectives, our first objective was obviously to get promoted and now we want to win the league, the best way possible, that’s what we’re trying to do.”

A substitute in the second half it took the Ecuador international little time to make an impact, netting his first goal within three minutes of coming on. He followed up his great afternoon's work with his second, and the team's 5th, in 90+2.

“It’s all down to the guys; without them I wouldn’t be in the situation to score the goals. But I’m really delighted. It’s been a tough season on a personal note but I’m very happy for the guys. I’m always trying my best to push the guys on harder, then training. So, it’s all a nice thing, I’ll always remember this game. The guys made it very special for me today.”

In addition to the flurry of goals, the squad secured another clean sheet, the 30th of the campaign. The desire for this was fully on show when just before half-time at 3-0 up, there was a moment when the whole team sprinted back to stop a QPR attack, which Sarmiento believes are examples of how the team have achieved 32 consecutive league games unbeaten.

“I think today everyone would have thought that after the game at the weekend we would have enjoyed it maybe a bit too much. But our objective was to come here on the front foot, we had a lot on the line with the amount of games we are unbeaten, the clean sheets. So that’s what we wanted to carry on doing, keep on doing the same thing, and that worked out for us today.”

Another positive of note on the day was the return of Aaron Ramsey from a long spell of 14 months on the sidelines due to injury.

“I’m very happy for him, delighted. When I first came, he was one of the first guys that I actually spoke to. He’s a lovely guy to be around so I’m very proud.

“I’m happy for him, I’m sure the lads are as well. To be out for so long and then to come back on the pitch again I could imagine how much it means to him and his family. I’m sure he knows that we’re all pleased for him.”

The Clarets conclude their campaign at home to Millwall next Saturday and Sarmiento is hoping the team can carry their positive momentum into the final fixture.

“We’ve got momentum at the moment, and we want to carry on and win the last game of the season. It’s at home so I’m sure the fans will be around us. It’ll be a great way to finish off the season, with a win in front of everyone.”
