Season comes to an end at Turf Moor

The curtain comes down on Burnley Women’s 2024/25 season when Sporting Khalsa visit Turf Moor on Sunday afternoon.

A win could see the Clarets finish 3rd depending on other results, alongside a Lancashire FA Senior Cup title that was secured last month.

Interim Head Coach Louise Roberts and her players are aiming to build on an emphatic 7-0 victory over Halifax last time out, which ended a spell of back-to-back defeats.

Heidi Logan opened the scoring with her 10th goal of the campaign after 30 minutes on a wet and windy night in Nelson, before Brenna McPartlan made it 2-0.

The Clarets stepped it up a gear after the break as centre-back Georgia Marshall and striker Laura Elford scored a brace each, alongside a further strike from substitute Aimee Kelly.

43 points from 21 Northern Premier Division of the Women’s National League matches is currently enough for a 4th-placed finish, with Stoke City the target to catch on the final day.

That task won’t be made easy by Sporting Khalsa, who are operating in the third tier for the first time in their history.

They’ve made a good fist of it and currently sit 8th in the 12-team table, well clear of the relegation zone on the back of a six-match unbeaten run in all competitions.

Khalsa have won their last two league matches by a combined score of 11-0, beating Stourbridge 5-0 last time out.

Olivia Stubbs and Ania Denham both scored in the opening five minutes to give the Midlanders the perfect start and they were able to kick on from there.

After Daisy Wickett added a third Stubbs made it 4-0 before half-time, allowing Denham to complete the scoring in the second period.

The Clarets came out on top when these two teams met at the Guardian Warehousing Arena in November’s reverse fixture.

Top scorer Elford converted an Anna Grey cross to break the deadlock and it was 2-0 when Tilly Wilkes beat the Khalsa ‘keeper at her near post with a free-kick.

An Elford tap in made it 3-0 before Annabel Davies managed a late consolation goal for the hosts, but they were unable to claw back a point.

Burnley season ticket holders can gain entry for this match, which kicks off at 2pm, for free.

They can claim their complimentary ticket online here, over the phone on 01282 446800 or in person at the Turf Moor ticket office. It is advised that you do this in advance of the day.

Non season ticket holders can purchase tickets at £5 for adults and £2.50 for concessions. General admission seating will be in the Bob Lord Stand.

Supporters are reminded that season tickets cannot be used at the turnstiles to gain access to the stadium. A separate match ticket must be claimed, with the ticket office open from 10am on match day.

All ticket holders can access the Club’s fun zone in the 1882 free of charge, with access via Harry Potts Way.

Activities include a petting zoo, face painting, balloon modelling and magic display.
