Dara O'Shea admits he's excited for the upcoming campaign with the Clarets and is relishing the opportunity of testing himself 'against the best in the world'.
The 24-year-old is no stranger to the Premier League having played 28 times for West Bromwich Albion in the 2020/21 season.
O'Shea says he has settled in well at Turf Moor since arriving in June and enjoyed a strong pre-season but is eager to get playing now and pull on the Claret & Blue shirt.
The defender said: "It’s been a strong pre-season, tough but when you come into a new club it's always tough to start with but I've enjoyed it.
"I’ve settled in really well now and mixed well with the group. It's a great group of lads and everyone at the Club have been really welcoming. I'm really happy with where I'm at.
"It’s the best league in the world. I had a taste of it and it was something I wanted to get back to as soon as I could.
"I’m really excited for it now. It’s the best league in the world, like I said. You’re playing against the best players and it’s a great opportunity to test myself and push on.
"It’s a new year. A new season. It brings new opportunities and new positions we can push ourselves onto another successful year."
O'Shea was Vincent Kompany's first signing of the summer transfer window and the Irishman describes himself as a leader and wants to learn traits from the former Manchester City legend.
The centre-back said: "Growing up Kompany was one of the best defenders in the Premier League and someone I looked up to in that sense.
"So, to have him as a coach and a manager it's kind of surreal. To be able to pick his brains and learn from one of the best who’s done it.
"I see myself as a leader and that’s something you want to progress into as you get older. You don't win that many trophies with a club and be the captain for no reason.
"There’s obviously something behind the scenes that you’re doing right and he has that in abundance. So, learning from someone like him is a massive plus for me."
