Good evening and a warm welcome back to Turf Moor as we kick-off the new Premier League season against Manchester City.
Well, what a few months it’s been. A lot has happened since we were last together here back in May enjoying our Championship trophy celebrations. We’ve welcomed eight new faces (at the time of publication), said goodbye to some players through loan spells and toured Belgium, Spain and Germany in a jam-packed pre-season. Plus, much more!
When I first arrived at the Club, I spoke about growing the Burnley brand and bringing the Clarets to a worldwide audience. We took another step towards this recently, with the announcement of our latest investors YouTube sensation Dude Perfect, who are here with us tonight.
It’s fantastic to have Garrett, Tyler, Cody, Coby and Cory onboard, and, just like JJ and Kealia Watt who are also here supporting this evening, they bring such an infectious energy and appetite to get involved with the Club and local community.
Turf Moor has also seen an uplift since you’ve all been away. At the Club we are always looking for ways to improve the matchday experience and the stadium has undergone significant renovations over the past few months. We’ve partnered with Levy UK + Ireland and in addition to the refurbishment of brand-new hospitality lounges in the East Stand, in the concourses you’ll see the introduction of new self-order units.
There are new additions for you all to enjoy in the newly named Rapidz FanZone too, with a new outdoor screen and food & drink outlets.
In further exciting news, this week saw the release of our documentary Mission to Burnley. All episodes are now available to watch on Sky Documentaries and NOW and give exclusive behind-the-scenes access to the Club from relegation through to our Championship winning campaign. What a season it was, and the series really captured the highs, lows and everything in between. I’ve always believed in transparency, and our Club is on an incredible journey, which is why I was keen to do the series - to bring people along on that journey.
Thank you to the team at Ad Hoc Films and Sky for all their hard work. It’s something I’m incredibly proud to have been a part of.
There’s also been plenty of developments with our academy and women’s teams, with two new leaders at the helm. David Longwell joins us as Academy Manager and Rebecca Sawiuk as our new Burnley FC Women Manager. Best of luck to you both for the season ahead.
It’s a pleasure to be kicking-off the Premier League campaign here under the lights. Remember, at the end of last season, Vincent urged us all to play our part by making as much noise as possible and ensuring that home turf is a fortress. Let’s keep our promise to him and show Dude Perfect who are experiencing their first Clarets game tonight, just how special an electric Turf Moor can be!
As always, best of luck to Vincent, the players and staff. It’s taken a lot of hard work and effort to get this fantastic football club back to the Premier League, where it belongs.
Enjoy the game. Up the Clarets!
