Ahead of this evening’s Premier League season-opener at the Turf, Micah Richards says he will be a keen observer and is looking forward to seeing how Vincent Kompany’s Clarets compete against Pep Guardiola’s treble-winning side.
“When you look at the football played at Burnley, you always knew what they were going to do. Turf Moor was a tough, tough place to come in a positive way. Vincent has completely changed the style of play and they were fantastic last season and so exciting to watch. I came along to Burnley a few times last season to watch them and I was so impressed. Kompany was so calm on the touchline, he’s stuck to his principles and I’m so pleased for him that he’s doing well. He’s very meticulous and a great thinker of the game. I knew he would be a success.”
Micah feels that although City go into the game as heavy favourites, Burnley are more than capable of coming away with a positive result.
“I can’t wait for the game. I’m looking forward to seeing how both sides line up. In the FA Cup last season, Kompany stuck to his principles at the Etihad and City exploited them on the day but it’s going to be a really intriguing tactical battle. City have shown they do allow teams opportunities during games and it will depend on how Burnley capatilise on when that opportunity comes around. If they do that and have that belief then they could get at least a draw. Southampton knocked them out of the Carabao Cup last season so it can be done but we know the quality City have so it promises to be a great game."
