Claret Women boss wants side to show their quality in Third Round tie

Jonathan Morgan is relishing the opportunity of a run in the Vitality Women’s FA Cup this season, but knows his side must show their full quality against Norwich City Women to progress to the Fourth Round.

The Claret Women’s manager is looking forward to the test posed by the Canaries in what will be a first home game in eight weeks, albeit at an alternate venue – Hyde United’s Project Solar Stadium.

Morgan – who today for the men’s team’s game against Middlesbrough is on co-comms with Phil Bird for Clarets+ - spoke to the Club’s media in the build-up to Sunday’s game, discussing the season so far, Norwich, and what the side need to do to get through this Sunday.

Morgan on his time at Burnley so far:

“I think it’s been a very positive first half of the season. It’s great to be unbeaten so far this year, but we want to convert a few of these draws in to wins in the second half of the campaign.

“We will continue to take it one game at a time and focus on how we can become better than what we are showing currently.

“I’ve really enjoyed my time here so far. The Club have been extremely welcoming and the vision they have for the female game is fantastic. The one thing I have enjoyed the most is the holistic approach the Club has within all departments.

“That being the case has made the job extremely enjoyable, not just for me but for everyone involved with the women’s side of the Club.”

Morgan on having a home game for the first time in almost two months:

“We are honestly delighted to finally have a home game! It’s been so long and somewhat unnatural having to travel away for so many games on the bounce.

“Doing it so often in quick succession is difficult, and I am proud of the girls for winning all games on the road as it’s been a real challenge.

“Having a home tie is great, and it will be nice to be back in front of some home support.”

Morgan on the resilience of the Claret Women:

“I think resilience runs through the DNA of this Club, you have seen it so many times this year so far with Vincent and the lads as well as ourselves already.

“We just have a strong belief in the way we play, our style, and our philosophy. I would like to put games to bed a little earlier than we have been doing, but all that matters is the win and the fact the girls can pull themselves back after each setback.

“The confidence and the ability to do it are both superb traits that we have within this team.”

Morgan on Norwich:

“Of course we want to progress this weekend, but so do Norwich. So far, we have had a good run, but Norwich will provide us with a real test.

“They are a well organised team who are being backed by the Club and have their own ambitions. We will have to be careful and play to our full potential if we want to progress though.”

Morgan on his message to the squad ahead of Sunday’s game:

“I just want the girls to go out and enjoy the game. If we can play with no pressure on our backs, then I know that we will have a good game.

“We need to keep it simple and just continue improving on what we have already improved on.”

You can come and support Burnley FC Women at the Project Solar Stadium (SK14 5PL) this Sunday with entry just £3 for adults while concessions are free of charge.
